DEC wrote:Rocky Gully Smoke Alert 8pm
Sunday, 13 December 2009
The Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) advises that there is a chance of haze in the Rocky Gully and Walpole areas this evening and tomorrow morning as a result of burns in the State's south-west.
DEC Frankland District duty officer George Doust said the department was completing a biodiversity management burn 30km north of Walpole at Mount Frankland National Park, and there was the potential for southerly winds overnight to push residual smoke towards Rocky Gully in the Great Southern.
"The burn is part of the State's prescribed spring burning program undertaken to protect community and biodiversity assets from summer wildfires," Mr Doust said.
"Drying conditions today has caused running fire outside the burn, and DEC will be continuing to secure boundaries over the next few days."
People with conditions exacerbated by smoke should take precautions in line with their medical advice for these circumstances.
