I live in the City of Canning and have noticed that the council have gone around and stuck blue 'cats eyes' on the road. The first time i saw them i thought, what the hell are they for. Upon slowing down and having a gander one day i found that they were hydrant markers, and that whatever side of the centre line they were on was the side that the hydrant was on.

They have been setup north of the river for some time now as well, must make it easier to identify the hydrants!

They've been in Broome since at least 2000 (saw them there and was wondering the same), Kalamunda had them around since early this century, Merredin have had them for at least 5 years. (In fact they became mandatory just as Merredin VFRS decided to do it ourselves - saved us some $! :D)

This came up on Botica's bunch a couple of years back with. Those things should show up quite well in smoke or fog.

We got them in Sydney back around 98? or 2000? They really show up well at night (wet or dry) and during the day and really speed up finding the hydrant.

Not sure if it is a trial in Kalg or not, but there only seems to be one here since about 05ish. City of Swan I know has them and has since about 2004

They're not a trial. It's a statewide job. Some companies have been contracted to do large areas (eg Busselton which from memory has over 1000?)

Yes I recall seeing them in Broome back then. Has anyone noticed whether or not any of the blue ones have the solar panel and LEDs in them?

Nope - they are just like the orange ones you see on the road - passively reflective. Not active at all.
