No but the FPA tugs have fire fighting capabilities

Why? All fires can be dealt with using fire engines and helitacs. If they cant SES have boats just need water pistols.

The Swan and Canning Rivers are hardly comparable to Sydney's harbours.

May i suggest that you have a chat to South Yunderup BFB... They have a fire boat. Very impressive too i might add, so yes FESA do support Fire boats.

Many RFS Briagdes have fire boats, however these are small like South Yunderup's, or a little larger. They do not operate on Sydney Harbour, but in smaller harbours, and rivers throughout the state. NSWFB have a moderately sized boat, that takes 4 to 6 crew max. This was only commissioned last year. To my knowledge the only other non-bushfire fighting boat in Aust under the operation of a Fire Service is the MV Gallantry in SA. edit that, ARFF have boats similar to NSWFB at several Airports.

Most of the Urban Fire Services in Australia operate only small craft, 'tinnies' or Inflatables, more for Hazmat than firefighting. For firefighting there are agreements with the Port Authorities where the Fire Service firefighters will board the tugs to perform firefighting duties.

Oh, and I don't think that Sth Yunderup is the only brigade in WA with a firefighting boat.

im just gunna wait til mods move this topic about boats soon.

BUt urm we all know last year when the fireworks went up in flames.how the heck they stop it??

fesa dont have fire boat ..only lil pump and then hose to hose watever you have on fire..

i think fesa should have fire boat weather not perth not like new york or sydeny..

one odd day there will be boat fire or boat crash.

Considering a boat is surrounded by water, pretty sure it can just burn itself out if there isn't an appliance around...

Where do you suggest the fire boat be located? Then by the time it gets to a fire the boat is burnt out anyway. The FPA, and no doubt navy, have it covered if there is a major chaos. Waste of money otherwise.

Whilst I can't understand half of your last post...

FESA do have boats, that can be used for firefighting. SES is under the FESA umbrella.

The FRS at Perth and Freo, have portable pumps, which have a pretty good capacity. These can be taken on Police or SES boats, if necessary. These can 'handle' anything necessary upstream, where the Tugs cannot go. Anything upstream though, is likely to be a fibreglass or wooden boat, and it's pretty much doomed once a fire sets in.

Anything in the Ports area, the firefighters can use the FPA tugs, which have enormous pumping capacity, and if around the Port, also fight it from land.

There are few incidents on the water that are fire related. The majority are malfunction, medical, and a small number of crashes. For all of this, there is Police, whatever the Waterways group is called these days, SES, Vol Marine Rescue. They all handle it quite well.

toottoot You have just shown that you really have no idea. As for over in NSW there are 2 RFS brigades who are dedicated Boat Brigades. They work well and those boys and girls can go up hills like the clappers. The Boats do have onboard pumps which pump out a heap of water. Then they carry portable pumps up the hill to conduct relay pumping. Due to the nature of a lot of homes on the woronora River the brigade was created. A very highly professional Brigade.

Where on the Swan or Canning River do we have a lot of homes on the river, the same as the situation in Woronora? The existing appliances plus the helitaks have it covered. I put it to you Helitak_670 that if we needed them we would have them. Why should FESA spend money on something that would be of little value when the money could be better spent elsewhere?

Which was the bit I have no idea about?

I know that the Whitfords Sea Rescue and Fremantle Sea Rescue groups have fire fighting equipment on board (they put out the barges on fire at Skyworks 2007). I saw a boat fire on the river in Maylands a while back that was put out by a FESA land crew, though the boat basically burnt to the waterline first.. Also, some of you may remember the FANTAstic boat that caught fire off Hillarys ten or twenty years ago (some female model was burnt in the incident too I think). That fire was put out by PV20 (a Marine and Harbours vessel - now called DPI).
I think the waterways are pretty covered.
