I Agree Milsy about time they Utilised local Resources too many times they dont mobilise them quick enough . they seem to activate Zone 2 in the hills and at the base of the scarp this is something they need to start looking at in those areas along the coast that have a high fire rate every summer
ZONE 2 works well but up here its becoming a pain in the arse, we can turnout up to three times a night 4 times a week and get stood down the majority of those times or get downgraded to normal road conditions for mopup as FRS gets there faster but runs out of water. also with an increase in callouts and standdowns especially at 2am in the morning it becomes harder and harder to get crews to go to fires. theres nothing worse then on a 38 degree day getting 4 pages to bushland and getting stood down 3 times then having to go out on the 4th time for either mopups or a roaring bushfire. and it happens throughout summer no matter if the weather cools and its unnesecary. it also means that volunteer resources get stood down by career crews from fires in their own areas. so u really have to weigh up the overall praticality. it does get resources to a fire much quicker, but at what cost?
Zone 2 is meant to activate only when the fire danger is Very High or Extreme. The whole idea is to get resources mobilised early, and prevent turnout delays, should extra resources be required.
It can be a pain, but I'd rather turnout and be stood down 10 times in a night, than get turned out late, and lose a house...
yeh i agree with that, and it certainly works, but u cant tell me it doesnt get frustrating for many volunteers. it has been proven to work this year just by the major decrease in major incidents within our op area.
A friendly reminder to all that this thread and the structure fire thread are for information about active incidents. It is often used by people to find out info as it may be impacting on their homes/worksites and the only internet access they have may be by mobile phone. Please keep your posts to the point about the incident. This saves them needing to download huge amounts of data to get the information they need.
