I think I finally know what's actually causing the 'squishy audio' problem. Some dead electrolytic capacitors on the radio's power supply board
I'll get a swap-out radio sorted so I can repair it.

I replaced the capacitors (which were faulty) but the audio fault is still there.vk6hgr wrote:I think I finally know what's actually causing the 'squishy audio' problem. Some dead electrolytic capacitors on the radio's power supply board
Clearly it's the PC soundcard! Sigh. Realtek AC97 souncards have always sucked...
Don't worry folks. I will get this working properly - even if it drives me crazy, first!
And I promise that I will stop using words like 'finally' and 'fixed' until it's been independently confirmed by other people.

Yep, it was about the same time I was messing with thingsAusrob wrote:I was listening in via the N95 when I went to bed last night I think it was the worst I had heard it (around the time of your post)
What sort of sound card have you got? PCI? I will see if I have anything spare.
I've now changed the sound card to a Sound Blaster Live. The audio fidelity far better and so far the audio fault seems to have gone away. Please let me know if that's what you find also.
