Hello at Hopman Cup

Post by auntys_eyes »

If any WARSUG members are attending the Hopman Cup this year, either spectating or working, feel free to say hello. I will be doing one of the cameras at the end of the net.

I am working all of the night sessions on the main court and next Thursday during the day session on the back court.

On Saturday, Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday nights i will be operating this little beastie (known as a w**k plank).

And on Thursday on the back court i'll be on this little back breaker

Hey AE, in the past years the Phillips portables drop into a bigger unit to become a studio size camera for the main court. Is that still the go?

Yeah that's right CI. They fit in to what we call a 'Build-Up Kit' for the bigger lenses.

The above pic (top) is from 2001 and shows the Ikegami cameras we had previous to the Phillips cameras we now have. The bottom pic shows the current cameras but in a smaller config with 7 inch viewfinders.

CI- will i be seeing you at the Hopman??

Further to your question CI, this is a current camera setup with Phillips camera in a Build-Up Kit. This is the same camera position as the top photo.

Donks - The cams in the top pic are previous generation and long gone. The above pics shows our curent gear. As for the weight, in the above configuration with the Build-Up Kit and box lens... i think about 40 kilos.

There are 5 main parts for the above config... Pan & Tilt Head, Build-Up Kit, Lens, Camera Body and Viewfinder. It's not actually hard to assemble/disassemble but you have to be very carefull with the sequence and the connections. It's more awkward than hard depending on the location and access, and the Build-Up and lens are quite heavy.

One gets lots of practice, especially on the WAFL. Rig & de-rig every Saturday for 25 odd weeks

I might pop down. Have been the last 5 years as work get a corporate box. Some years we are at the end under the commentry boxes and some times we are on the side of the court behind the camera operators (I have probably sat right behind you in the past!). I may come to the finals.

I will be working Hopman Cup again this year, so if any WARSUG members are working or spectating at the Dome this year, feel free to introduce yourself if you get a chance. I am working all four night sessions on the main court (Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu), at the same camera position shown above (but not the back court this year, YAY).
