My understanding is that the old BCF extinguishers are the only type allowed to be used on board aircraft. Its certainly the only type of fire extinguisher I've ever noticed on board aircraft, and on asking more experienced pilots than myself that was always the response I got.Zebedee wrote:Perhaps one of our pilot members could enlighten us further?

Correct that the navy pers have BA on for firefightoing activities, However if the Capt decides to dump halon ( only found in engine spaces ) it has to be free of all crew members. The compartmnent is isolated for a reasonable time - from memory atleast 1 hr before crews will enter. If Halon is dumped and crew are still in compartment then they will remain there. This is what happened in the Westralia fire ( RIP members ).Tyranus wrote:Well no, the fire fighters on the ships would all have BA on an aeroplane/helicopter, well I dunno *-)WPXZBP wrote:Well you learn something every day.
I wouldn't be using them in a closed space though... they're pretty nasty.
Yeah have been keen to get any footage of arsonists arrests given the amount of fires recently. Had my mate Travis out tagging along with me when we heard the fireys had a guy that was suss take off from them and need police quick.auntys_eyes wrote:I thought it was a bit of a coincidence that the N@N crew were so quick to the scene . Nothing like "inside" information hey Turbo. I was thinking of posting a reply suggesting the guy had a scanner, after he said "i heard they were looking for a guy wearing...", sounded like he knew more than the average 'Joe Public'Turbo wrote:Guess who the guys "mate" was - News@Night to the rescue!yorky wrote:Tand one of the northern suburbs firebugs has been caught by a citizens arrest!
We were close enough so started looking down streets in the near area when we came across a guy matching the description.
Pulled up next to him, had a chat and "detained" him until police arrived minutes later. They questioned him a bit and had a chat to us before taking him to Warwick for further questioning.
I did a quick interview of my mate and didnt think much more of it until he woke me up the next day telling me arson squad had called him and the guy has been convicted of lighting 4 fires!
All in a nights work for N@N
