The fire at the Boorabin National Park killed three men, two in one truck, one in another.
Ahhh good old media discrepancies, I saw 2 men and a child, but then even during the report the way they were saying it sounded like there were more. Condolences go the families, that's a terrible way to go!

The reason early media reports were saying 2 adults and 1 child is that they were based on the original information from the police who originally attended. The first on scene could not get too close due to heat and with respect to scene preservation. It was believed that one of the deceased was a child due to their size. Subsequent investigation revealed that one of the victims was and adult of smaller physical build.

A total (and preventable) tragedy for all involved

This evenings clips including the fire in Parkerville, and one of the northern suburbs firebugs has been caught by a citizens arrest! Also footage from one of the trucks caught in the outback fires.

Someone should take Channel 10 to task for having a BCF extinguisher in the cabin of the helicopter and it is clearly visible next to the reporter's head. They are banned in Australia. Bromochlorodifluoromethane (BCF) is a very bad pollutant which damages the ozone layer.

Haha well spotted.

But I'm wondering if they're still allowed on aircraft. I did a very quick Google search and came across this Airworthiness Bulletin from CASA, published in late 2005.

[quote]AD/General/65 requires that “where 2 or more extinguishers are required in the passenger compartment, at least 2 shall contain Halon 1211 (BCF) or a CASA approved equivalentâ€

I believe it is also permitted on Navy ships, whether that is all ships or just Navy ships. Don't know about aircraft though

Well you learn something every day.

I wouldn't be using them in a closed space though... they're pretty nasty.

That's what I'm talking about. Breathing in Halon 1211 at 4% for more than one minute causes toxic effects.

I thought it was a bit of a coincidence that the N@N crew were so quick to the scene  . Nothing like "inside" information hey Turbo. I was thinking of posting a reply suggesting the guy had a scanner, after he said "i heard they were looking for a guy wearing...", sounded like he knew more than the average 'Joe Public' 8)
