Nope, not in Perth. They normally get their vision from 7, 9 or 10. The news departments have all sorts of funny "exchange" agreements going on when it comes to news footage.

ABC only has 2 helicopters (Sydney & Melbourne), despite the fact that we have a bigger state to cover :x . As Bonez said, we often enter in to 'pooling' arrangements with 7, 9 or 10 for our aerial vision. Very rarely we hire a chopper for particular jobs.

All very dissapointing for a person who loves helicopter work, working for the only station that doesn't have one  . (Although my souces tell me one of the other stations may be losing theirs  )

Very juicy info! Do we know which one this is? Would it be a bit of NEW or STW?

I know that TVW surely wouldn't lose theirs... :P

I think that would be a bad move to get rid of the chopper...

Seven own theirs, Ten and Nine are leased - in fact the Ten and Nine choppers were owned by the same company last time I enquired, and indications are that Nine are looking to bail out of their arrangement.

Quite a few TV stations across Australia lease their helicopters - more cost effective in the long term. A chopper is one expensive asset to have on your books when all the on-costs and depreciation are taken into account.

On my way home from work today, I drove past Channels 7 and 9 doing a live cross from outside the home of Lloyd Rayney.

Greetings to the two Channel 9 crewmen who were standing out front when I showed up, declined to have their picture taken alongside their vehicle, and pointed me in the direction of WARSUG for any other shots of media vehicles ;-)

Newer model 7 News Commodore Wagon (the Falcon Wagon in the is an ABC one, I think. You can also just see Alison Fan in this shot, though she's obscured by one of the crew.)

Sorry Brad, not ours. The Falcon to the rear of the 7 Commodore is a Channel 9 car. Our ABC News Falcons have roof racks.

If you go back to pages 1 & 2 of this topic, there are pics of two of our Falcons :)

Indeed there is :)

The grille on this wagon is also an AU-series grille, whereas all the ABC Falcons appear to be BA-series or newer.

Thought that was your car MJS. Your rego plate has the same prefix as, and is less than 50 numbers away from, my private car.
