Speed Camera's

Post by nra555 »

hey guys, so these IR cameras have been around for a while now. and theres a few questions iv got in reguards to how they operate.
do they use IR to calculate the vehicles speed ? like the old ones used radar.
or do they take an IR image kinda like a FLIR camera or is it a standard digital image with a flash?
are they single directional, as in do they take a picture from the front, rear or both?
and if they are, can they be set up forwards or backward so they can take a picture from either side? or is it a set direction.
Also, Is there any indecation youve been done? like a flash/light ect....

one thing I have been told for certin is they can tell wich lane the car speeding is in, in the case of a speeding vehicle overtaking a vehicle doing the posted limit.

thanks in advance guys.

How Lidars work

Also, some local info here which says Vitronic PoliScan Speed M1 system can monitor up to four (4) lanes of traffic simultaneously

Agreed. I am understand now that the new speed camera's regardless of facing towards or the other way around can get vehicles in both directions.

BTW - If you see a VW Van on the side of the road - SLOW DOWN!

Usually a dead give away is the almost full section rear window at the back
Image

Their promotion with them is they they are there for road safety, not revenue raising, by means of getting people to slow down when they see them, and those that dont see them and slow down get caught.

So how do people see them, at 0545 am, on the day of Perth's biggest fog, I picked up 2 on the Tonkin highway south bound, one in Bayswater, one in Perth Airport, just past GE HWY overpass.

The reason I saw the 2nd one is a Silver holden was undertaking me, and he got flashed, there was no other way to see it, also I have a detector.

So if thats not being sneaky and revenue raising I dont know what is.

Remember... it's a voluntary tax. Choose to speed, and get caught, you pay. Choose not to speed, you don't have to pay. Simple really. :D

You don't need to slow down unless you're speeding

Yea and no, if I see one, and I know I'm not speeding, something makes me still brake, I'm sure I'm not the only one....

No, you definitely aren't the only. I see it happen on WC Highway often. For some reason slowing from 70 to 50 asures drivers they won't get booked in a 70k zone. Never mind all the people in back braking for the ones in front. Of course if they've seen the device on the side of the road then it's already too late.

I saw one of the fixed ones go off at Reid High way at night..

I thought they were supposed to have filters in the flash, all I remember seeing is two bright white flashes one after the other, getting the car going the opposite direction to me, while the camera is trying to target the rear of the car thats is speeding through the intersection, the flash is facing toward the oncoming traffic.

Somewhat a concern for the oncoming traffic, those flashes were not dull, and somewhat dazzled me as I was pulling up at the lights, a safety issue and has the potential to cause a accident.

I got done by one at night, down on the SW Hwy and the flash was red but still incredibly bright.

EDIT: Suspect this was an older multanova.
