I'm pretty sure I heard on Nova 93.7 yesterday that they were in the process of installing 50 of them right now

Hi all

The camera at Hepburn and Marmion avenues, Padbury has been installed in the last few days and appears to be working allready so much for the report that it would be working from July 1 and there appears to be one on the intersection of North Lake Road and Leach Highway I saw this one in early April.

There are three on Leach Highway but these are numberplate recognition cameras and not combined speed red light cameras. I had posted a link which described how they worked in a previous post but a mod deleted the link.

You can also tell because the camera doesn't face the intersection which would make it hard to prove a red light infringement from the evidence it provided.

Oh that explains things, the day I went thru there was a van and some blokes arround the camera I saw and it was facing towards the intersection when I first went thru (maybe some lag managed to rip it arround). Number plate recognition cameras are yet another way of telling the speed of the traffic.

Just as well I keep to the speed limit, a week ago I made a trip to Bunbury and I thought my speedo must be faulty as nearly all cars and trucks went past me at speeds of at least 10 - 30km/h faster.

I did have my trusty VX-170 with me scanning away and it stopped on some interesting rx traffic.

They look like they only pick traffic on one direction, as it was pointing away from the intersection.

Does any one know what band they work on?

Also the police have those new hand held's that record video, do they use a Band like their older brothers or not?

Band? They have been seen working on some new AC/DC.

Also, the one on Wanneroo x Beach is taking snaps. The news articles stated they officially start 1st July but this one is definitely snapping away happily.

Hand Held's and Car Mounted radars use K and X Band

The Ka band (Pronounced: "Kay-A Band") covers the frequencies of 26.5-40GHz[1]. The Ka band is part of the K band of the microwave band of the electromagnetic spectrum. This symbol refers to "K-above" — in other words, the band directly above the K-band. I saw it actually activate the other day as an ambulance went through the red light. The flash is very subtle and if I wasn't looking straight at it as it went off I'd never have known it activated.

I thought they were laser, not radar like the old ones?

New guns are Laser (904nm) - they do not emit RF.

Car mounted radar is K Band (24.150GHz) , Multanova is Ka Band (33.400GHz)

saw the one on roe hwy activate last night. extremely subtle. you wouldn't notice it in your rear view until you receive the fine in the mail.

There seems to be one at Canning Highway and Douglas Ave (South Perth).
