Latest round of red light (speed?) cameras

Post by yorky »

Right so the word on the street is that a bunch of red light cameras around Perth are getting upgraded to combined red light + speed cameras. Can anyone confirm this?

I can confirm that Beach x Mirrabooka and Wannaroo x Beach have newer style cameras replaced last week, but are they going to be fixed speed cameras as well?

FYI

These are the new fixed red light / speed camera locations for Perth.

LOCATION

CANNING HWY/RISELEY STREET APPLECROSS
STIRLING HWY/ERIC STREET, COTTESLOE
CANNING HWY/DOUGLAS AVE. SOUTH PERTH
G.E.H./SHEPPERTON RD. VICTORIA PARK
ALBANY HWY/LEACH HWAY OFF RAMP, BENTLEY
WINTERFOLD RD/STOCK ROAD, HILTON
WANNEROO RD/BEACH ROAD, BALGA
LEACH HWY/BUNGAREE RD. WILSON
BEACH RD/MIRRABOOKA AVENUE BALGA
ROE HWY/KALAMUNDA ROAD, HIGH WYCOMBE
HEPBURN AVE/MARMION AVENUE, PADBURY
MORLEY DVE/ALEXANDER DVE. DIANELLA

These are the up-coming locations for the new red light speed cameras. Even if you speed through the orange light to beat the red – if you’re speeding through these set of lights – you will get done for speeding.

They will all be in action from June/July. .

There is one already active in front of the bell tower on Riverside Drive in the City.

Yes only hearsay so you just keep on speeding through those red lights until your heart is content. Can confirm Stock X Winterfold has new type camera housing.

Check halfway down the page here for some interesting tidbits

I received an email today from a friend, with the EXACT same text in it as that which LighteningCrashes has quoted above. Neither texts say where it has come from. Does anyone know where this information originated?

I reckon every driver should just receive a standard speeding citation with their drivers license renewal. With the odds of every driver being caught "speeding" approaching 100% it would probably be cheaper doing it this way :-)

On a more on-topic note... I'd like it if these new cameras detected drivers going through red arrows (but where the through road is green) Have had far more near-misses in my experience from drivers thinking, "oh, straight ahead has a green, I'll just go through this red arrow"... which is entertaining when you actually have a green arrow going across his line of travel. Ditto for clowns who think "green arrow means green light"

What do people reckon? Will they eventually replace all of the old Gatso red light cameras with combo speed and red light ones?

They can install a RL cam at Reid Hwy and Marmion any time soon. It will pay for itself in a month.

About the existing camera yes, but it doesn't mention about the new cameras in different locations :(

I found this on watoday.com.au

http://www.watoday.com.au/wa-news/dual- ... -wy1c.html

The very bottom does list some of those new locations to get the upgrade.

Seven News had the same list, and mentioned "that there is more on the way"

Actually these intersections statistically have a bad history of accidents, thats why they have put them in =D> =D>

The bit i like about the new cameras is that even if you're on a green light, if you speed through the intersection you get your photo taken. cheeky buggers
