Might want to mention that is US state laws, not Australian which is very different :)

I think "Wisconsin, USA" in Mike's signature was probably a clue there :)

Yes, very different indeed. Was given the DID or DOT or whatever your department of transportation is called there by Doug, and read through the priorities/colors for emergency vehicles... I don't think VERY different even begins to cover it...

Hate to be the thorn in your side yorky, but the DPI hasn't existed for over a year. It is now the Department of Transport (DoT). The very link you posted has that at the top of the page. The WA Government is keeping the DPI url as a form of redirection for people that still use it.
