New Speed Camera - BEWARE!

You'll find they are for monitoring traffic flow etc. Not sure if they are just recorded onboard the vehicle (they drop the vehicle off for a day or two and come back to download the footage) or if its streamed I'm not sure.

They can then analyse it to see if things like light sequences need changing. I highly doubt the quality is good enough for number plates, its purely observational (you may see its footage from time to time on news programs highlighting dangerous drivers).

It has been confirmed that they are fixed speed cameras.

At the moment i have seen them at the following intersections:
Carrington and High St
Stock Rd and Leach Hwy
North Lakes Rd and Leach Highway.

They are all pointing towards west bound Traffic.

They look like they are pressure sensor units as the road has been worked on near them and the radar detector didnt go off.

Well we have been warned!!

i assume these also use the sensors that are built into the median strip at the top of the hill near the freo cemetry and the one near high road? (which appears to have actually subsided in the dirt )

i read they base it on a vehicles wheel base as well, seems to be like an aweful lot of computing power needed for these to actually work

Hi bakerboy.
I think what you're talking about is a different instrument altogether, while they may calculate speed it is not for the issuing of fines directly. These instruments measure how frequently the road is used and by what sorts of vehicles they can then determine how long it might be before they need to do a major overhaul of the road, when it's peak times are, if they do a major overhaul, does it have to be rated for 20 tonne trucks or just a standard family car etc. They may be able to pick up speed and say well this is a 60km/h strip and the average speed seems to be 75 km/h lets review it and in the mean time let the WA Police know that there's a lot of speeders in the area.

ah k, i thought they were part of the point to point system, cheers for that. also noticed today they were applying what i would assume to be the finishing touches to these cameras, lad on ladders were playing around with the camera and have attached what i assume is a BFO flash to it as well

oh and they are driving round in a flash new lime green holden wagon

I saw one of the car mounted one on Roe Hwy Midvale on Tuesday. When I went past later they were setting one of the old ones up next to it, so I presume some kind of testing / evaluation going on. Only ID as car mount by the rectangle on the back window - if was speeding it would have been to late to distinguish between car mounted camera and a break-down.

They are infact NPR Camera's (Number Plate Recognition) that will be utilised for timing purposes regarding freight from Fremantle Port - looking at delays etc. They will also look at timing's for TCL's (Traffic Lights). They have nothing to do with Speed.

The original post refers to the POLIScan speed camera which WAPOL currently has one on trial in W.A. that will replace the Multanove from 2010.

Whats the best kind of radar detector to get for a multinova? Im aware that thesecameras are undetectable but Im also aware that modern incar GPS systems can alerth the driver as they know where fixed cameras are.

Not that I encourage the use of such devices but the BEL STi Driver would have to best the best so far that I have seen in terms of range on both Multanova and Laser.

even if they are I dont think I'll be getting one of those...Id be just asking for trouble

WA is the (only?) state that allows detectors, but I believe jammers are not legal.

I use one of these and it's perfectly legal and safe. One came with my car.

No, they are illegal. Two drivers have been prosecuted so far in WA for using them. One driver was fined very heavily by the Magistrate!

When the jammer is operational and the gun is being jammed it show an error code on the current Laser Guns (from memory its E07) but the new guns that are being introduced will not be affected by these jammers...

Current legislation allows the use of Radar Detectors here in WA ONLY - NOT Jammers...
