Hey Guys,

Simple question; Is it illegal to park infront of or behind a speed camera which causes your car to obstruct the line of sight of the camera or warn motorists of the camera's presence?

I've read the Traffic Act, cant imagine anything?

If anything it could be disobeying a move on request from an officer, if one was given by an officer, not a camera operator (who isn't a commissioned officer).
The question has to be asked though, why would you be parking in front of a speed camera? Unless;

1) It was set up in your driveway
2) You're being an ass?

P.S I am in no way a legal afficionado and my best advice is to ask a real traffic lawyer

I think this came up with Inspector Royale one morning. If you're parking in a location that is legal to park in then you're quite with-in your right to do so.

which would be why speed cameras seem to be set up where its not legal to park?

A guy got charged last year. not sure what for but it was head line news.He had a sighn warning people of radar.Its simple.DONT SPEED.You get a gun license doesnt give you the right to shoot people

I've never parked in front of one, nor do i intend to. The only reason I ask was that it came up in conversation today at work. Folks were talking about if it was legal for cops to park near the cameras during their pay dispute. Didn't mean to open a can of worms haha

If you read the news articles they say that they were parked there to "ensure the safety of the camera operators"

You have made me curious about this. Say for example I was driving along a highway and my mobile phone rang, in which I safely pulled over to the edge of the road to have my conversation. My chat might last 2 hours, or 10 minutes. If I happened to pull up in front of a Multinova, blocking any other vehicles which may be speeding past, am I breaking the law?

Is "anywhere" on the edge of a highway a legal place to park? Last I heard, the police were encouraging people to pull over to talk on their mobiles, not drive and talk.

Would depend how technical you want to get.

If you pulled over to talk with the car still running and you in the drivers seat you can still get done since your still in control of the vehicle.

And your not parked if you pull over, you would be "Standing".

So when does parked start? When I pull the keys out, or when I leave the car? I'm not picking a fight, just interested.

That I'm not 100% sure law wise. I would only hazard a guess that you need the handbrake on/in park, keys out of the ignition at a minimum. I don't know if it also entails you being in the drivers seat/car.
