Bunbury police - live internet feed is online!

Post by Bonez »

Hello everyone,

Always RX has kindly donated a Uniden UBC56XLT scanner for the purpose of me setting up a live feed of the Bunbury police.
They are still analogue but I do not know how long for. Digital frequencies have been allocated by ACMA and I have started to see microwave links between sites appearing on the masts around the area, so the idea is to make the most of it while we can!

The live feed is currently in TESTING only, and I am located south of Bunbury in an area where the reception is not that great, using the supplied rubber ducky antenna. An antenna is also currently being sourced that should improve the signal strength significantly.

To access the audio stream, click the following link: http://www.punyhuman.org/livestream.wma

If you have difficulties loading it via that link, open your favorite media player (Windows Media Player has been tested) manually and go to File/Open URL, then copy and paste the location of the stream. So far I have tested this successfully on a Windows Vista PC using IE7 and my Windows Mobile 6.1 PDA phone. There may be issues for Firefox users so beware, and please post back reports so that you can assist me in ironing out any bugs that there may be in the process!

The stream is being encoded at 19kbps with Windows Media Encoder. (My Linux Desktop PC is noisy and it's in by bedroom - I turn it off at night, so I've opted for my folks Windows PC which is on 24/7 anyway!) My Internet connection speed is 8000/384, so I have enough upload bandwidth to support multiple connections. There is currently no limit on the amount of connections but should any issues arise I will review the situation and impose limits if necessary.

As to be expected, there are peak periods in Bunbury such as Thursday through Saturday evenings, but there is general chit chat and other jobs popping up throughout the day and night. It's nothing like the metro channels where there is constant jobs and you will find that the police down here are a bit more laid back and enjoy having the odd dig at each other and a little bit of fun, whilst maintaining their professionalism of course :)

If you connect to the stream it is possible that you won't hear anything for 15 or 30 minutes even, depending on how quiet it is, so please feel free to just leave it connected in the background as long as you wish.

Some basic information
RB100 = Bunbury Base
RB101 = Bunbury Traffic Base
RB102-109 = General duties vehicles
RE1xx = Eaton/Australind general duties vehicles

There are also various other traffic vehicles but I can't remember the callsigns etc that are used right now.

And for those of you who aren't from WA or don't know much about Bunbury....
The frequency that you are listening to is 468.175 (Channel 14). The greater Bunbury area which this channel is serviced by contains approximately 65,000 people, spread across the City of Bunbury and various surrounding shires. The area is approximately 2 and a half hours drive south of Perth and has the highest population outside of the Perth metropolitan area.

Any feedback, suggestions etc would be greatly appreciated. Most of all, enjoy!

Regards,
Bonez

Well I've just tested it!
Success we have an online feed again! :) thanks Bonez and Always RX. I use the mighty fox and it didn't do anything when clicking the link so if you use that as your main browser just set the link in Windows Media Player or open in IE.

Thankyou Bonez!!!!!!

Great to hear VKI again, even if it's a little less lively. We should have an 'official' opening on the 2nd of June to commemorate the anniversary of VKI Digital in Perth :shock: .

Thanks also to the various people who helped put it together. :) :)

While Bonez tries to work out what the issue is if you click File and then Open URL in Windows Media Player then paste the link it will open fine.
