Vehicle catagories

Post by SteveNSWP »

Hey what are the vehicle categories in WAPOL? Which vehicles can or cannot become involved in a pursuit?

Cheers,

Steve.

The driver qualifications are taken very seriously into account when a Priority Pursuit is Authorized. For example, a P2 driver can not drive PP. Also road conditions and the idiotometer reading of the evasive driver. For example, a pursuit must be aborted if the driver crosses onto the wrong side of the road.

Cat 1 & 2 a Priority Pursuit can be authorized depending on driver qualifications.
Cat 1 Vehicles are marked cars (VZ/VE Commodores, BA/BF/FG Falcon, XR6T etc.)
Cat 2 Vehicles are unmarked cars

For cat 3 a Priority 2 can be issued. (not sure on P1, but that is hardly ever dished out)
Cat 3 Vehicles are mostly the dual cab utes and motorcycles (can't remember other's (it's been a while...)

I'm not to sure on what a Cat 4 vehicle actually is. Possibly an unmarked Cat 3 :?:

Is PP, P1 and P2 issued by comms?

Here in NSW you come out of the Police Academy with Bronze Certification which means that you may drive a Police vehicle but may not engage in pursuit or urgent duty and must stick to all speed limits and road rules. After a year of you probation, you may re-attend the academy for the SRC (Silver's Response Course). If you pass, you are then Silver certified. You may do urgent duty and pursuits. There are no speed limitations and y are all equal. Gold is obtained only after years of fault free/incidnet free driving record. You have the same abilities as with Silver, except when a pursuit is engaged, you hold a supervisor status along with the shift supervisor, Duty Officer, Comms supervisor and Comms Duty Officer.

Is this the same as with P1, P2 and PP. Must you go to the academy to obtain these difference wualifications, or are WAPOL all trained the same, and comms issues the priority? Why can't some go PP?

Cheers,

Steve.

On graduating the academy officers are P2 class drivers. Further courses need to then be conducted for P1 and PP. The best people to give you more details would be walks, danny or any other serving officer that is a member of the board. 2 of my friends have recently graduated and both have told me they graduate with the P2 qualification.
