Can someone please tell me how the Bike coppers are allocated callsigns?
Is the callsign assigned to a member and that is used regardless of which machine they are astride.....Or is the callsign machine specific?
Also is the term "mike bike" (mic bike) used generically for all bikes or does this usually just apply to the teggies? oh...and if the callsigns are allocated to the machines, where are they placarded?....ive never seen a decal when ive been on the road. thanks in advance.

Motorcycle police are given callsigns similar to other vehicles for general duties situations but are given numbers in the 700 series. (eg HM701 is a motorcycle attached to Midland station.)

"Mike bike" has been used for some time - if my memory serves me correct, back when I started scanning in the late 80s they were given the callsign M448 or similar.

I'm not sure the callsigns are bike specific.

Yes, the term 'mike bike' is a holdover from the 'old days' when all the motorbikes had callsigns commencing with 'M' followed by one, two or possibly three digits.

I've seen 'TE' motorbikes placarded, of course the stickers are smaller than those used on the cars. If you look at any police motorbike when it's parked, somewhere on it you'll find its callsign, though in quite small lettering. Start by looking at the top or sides of the petrol tank.

There's a 24-hour servo near my house where the guys and girls often call in for coffee so I'm often walking past police vehicles of various kinds when I buy the morning newspaper!

Well I saw a Traffic Escort Vehicle and on the back it said TE XXX so it would mean Traffic Escort.

Also Tango Alpha was one which i saw on a Police Motorcycle.

Also Tango Bravo means Multinova Vehicle

ALL TANGO VEHICLES ARE BASED AT POLICE TRAFFIC.

Not always - TB is Traffic Support such as the booze buses, major crash etc.

The letters do not always represent the name of the section. eg TK = dog squad, TP = firearms branch/video & radio support/coronial inquiry etc

From memory I believe an Alpha callsign meant it was a Commissioned Officer for example AA101 would be the Commissioner.

I also know that Dr O’Callaghan rides the bike home fairly regularly AND does enforcement whilst his at it.........maybe it’s his bike??

Speed Cameras are now based in the regions as well, for example there are Multinovas and operators based at Fremantle, Joondalup, Perth, Bunbury, Kalgoorlie and so forth.

Cheers

Alpha alpha (AA) used to mainly be administration. Alpha prefixes also covered areas such as professional standards, crime investigation support, traffic operations support and policy, planning and evaluation. Now district traffic cars are also given alpha prefixes (eg AJ201, AH202, AY204) Seems like they are changing the structure a little with XH vehicles and the like.
