Over the years...

Post by spartacus »

I thought since the analogue has gone done we should make a collection of the best we've heard over the years.

My quote will be,

"You're guy has a docket 789 outcomes long... would you like me to read them out."
"No need to VKI, he seems like a really nice guy"

That is good.

Mine isn't funny, but I will always remember it....

'VKI, (mike bike) off at home, goodnight'.... followed 2 seconds later by 'VKI, some idiot just FLEW up Brighton Street and I have just heard a nasty crash, SJA will be required'. Followed a few minutes later by 'VKI, no driver in the vehicle'. Registration read out. VKI: 'The POI is Michael Gardiner, I repeat Michael Gardiner'. Most transmissions were done over the phone after that........

And that was the start of the end for their POI........

Funniest transmission I ever heard was back a while ago when the hip-hop thing was just starting: "Yeah, VKI, this kid was wearing baggy pants. Real baggy. I mean, his feet take two steps and his pants take one!"

I've heard some scary pursuits that they'd never allow these days. A 250Km/hr chase up the Mitchell freeway, anyone? (Still have the recording, too)

It has been really good to listen to VKI over the years. I've learnt a lot and I have gained a huge respect for the often difficult and often thankless job the police do for us.

Would that recording be available anywhere so that those who haven't had the oppurtunity to hear it can do so??

I'm not too sure it would be a good idea to post it... If I can get permission then I will.

I don't think there will be as many as you think...A lot of people have their scanners for FESA and air traffic control stuff too.

Ditto. As much of a pain it probably was to the police sometimes for operational reasons, and "baddies" being able to listen in, I think the other side of the coin was the amazing level of publicity it brought to the police's day to day work. Far more than a show like "The Force" could do for example.

I guess in today's world, the day where police comms went encrypted was inevitable. But it was fun while it lasted (15+ years for me :P )

Don't throw your scanners in the bin though folks - there's MUCH more stuff out there to listen to! :)

One that I can remember (callsigns may be wrong)

"VKI to AN203, you appear to be at x and x street can you attend a job around the corner please."

"AN203 errr we're at the office VKI."

"VKI AN203 I have you on GPS/AVL at x and x?"

"VKI I'm staring at my car, the letters say Alpha November Two Zero Three VKI"

"Roger. Disregard. *mumble*"

(EDIT: oh and the quote in my sig of course, classic).
"VKI, NJ050 will you be attending the job?"
"Negative VKI, my desk is bolted to the floor".
