basically all it is; the old radio network WAPOL used too broadcast on was analogue, hence the reason why you could receive the signal and listen in with a basic scanner. Now WAPOL are digital. The digital network allows encryption. This encryption will mean only decoded WAPOL hand-helds and radios can listen in, all WAPOL radios are coded and numbered. WAPOL also has GPS tracking (portable units soon). It is currently digital however the signal is still being reverted to analogue for the time being, due to some issues in certain areas. This is being fixed.

It's all to do with more revenue taking, as usual. To be able to listen to WAPol on the new encrypted digital radio system, you'll have to buy scanners from the WAPol shop front. They cost a fortune and they will also be able to record how much you listen and charge you on a per-minute rate. There will also be pay-per-event things such as hold-ups and and major TAs. Access to Tadis information is also extra. More here -> http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&q ... arch&meta=

Didgital
They are already on Didgital, that means they send jobs didgitallyand encrypted by satelight to all cars that are fitted with Tardis, or to a particular car, this you will not be able to hack into, its the same system SJA are already useing, there will always be certain amount of verbal comunication to cars from VKI and vice versa, some jobs you will hear occasionally, depending on how secret it is.playworth wrote:you have bank account right.. what your password to it..

It is like an email with all the details of the POI or job so no one else can know about it, i.e. the crooks etc who have scanners, but there will always be some convo..

By satellite, no. Radio towers, yes.
And yes the job is 'sent to a particular car' however other vehicles can read it as well.
But what the OP is asking is radio comms, yes its digital, yes it should be encrypted, yes analogue is running along side the digital network.
And playworth,

Signals of digital will be just that, 0's and 1's. The software/hardware obviously converts it voice. Similar to Voice over IP I'd imagine.slipknot wrote:will the sound be an anologue with digital sounds in it or will the signal be digital with digigtal sound in it like mobile phones? im asking, will the signal be didgital like pulses of RF 0011010101

Similar to mobile phones: http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/cell-phone5.htm
An exert:
Digital phones convert your voice into binary information (1s and 0s)
EDIT: And then obviously at the other end its converted back to voice again. This is the 'simple' way of putting it, there are a lot more steps in the conversion process along the way which is what makes these puppies so expensive.

One of the most basic methods of sending digital information over radio (also used over land-line) is Frequency Shift Keying. It's fairly easy to understand. I have some old transmitters and receivers at work which use FSK at 2400 baud to send and receive plain text and key presses from a keypad and LCD. Modern techniques are more complicated and I won't even pretend to understand them.
FSK is here -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frequency-shift_keying
Click on the Play button. I'm sure you'll recognise the sounds.
