The Digital Frequencies

bad news, south east metro and south metro have fully changed over as of this weekend, and i beleive the rest are less than a month away

anyone heard anything differently?

how expensive are digital scanners, can you buy them?
and can the new digital frequencies still be encrypted?

Yes you can buy digital scanners. No, they can't decode WAPOL's encryption.

Is your source reliable?

Or did you actually hear the switch over on air?

Is this channel 2 included?

EDIT: Reason I say is because we have already had several people say its gone 'full digital' yet still beaming through loud and clear.

ive got a pretty reliable source, yeah i just turned 12 and 47 on and both were blaring! maybe i got a bit too excited.

but my source says less than a month away!

who knows with this day and age?

Lets crank the broken record up again.

All metro districts and crime portfolios are now on digital talkgroups. There is no area left in the metro area that is using the analogue channels.

The reason you can still here the main consoles is that they are still patched through to the analogue repeaters as a fail safe. The fail safe being is that all the radios can also run on the 468MHZ frequencies if they need to.

Most special events are already being run on digital talkgroups that are not linked to the analoue network.

At anytime now now they will decide to pull the analogue plug and goodbye scanners.

a curiosity question:
Even though it is been broadcast in digital, it still needs to be broadcast on a frequency, will these be on the existing frequencies??? or somewhere completely different?

Digital signals are a different frequency as said.

12, 16 and 47 (Freo) were not coming through at all for most of last night.

Got a bit scared so called the duty inspector to see what was going on. He checked it out and it was back up on analogue soon after.

They don't mind the media talking to them about listening on scanners. They know we do it (and in fact we often know more about a situation than they do because of it). No problem with it. I have regular chats with Police Media and other Inspectors about what I have heard that night / day..
