Not much was reported on this... any more detail - was it just a minor derailment?

I heard one of the end carriages detached from the train and was left over the opposite side of a level crossing

Umm, how do you think everything gets to Alcoa Kwinana

There's still freight lines running through the Metro area.

Most of the trains that travel along the east-west rail line carry freight.

eg in Merredin they have the Prospector (passengers) plus about 8 trains a day carrying freight - including, but not limited to, sulfur & salt to and from the Goldfields and goods from the Eastern States.

All of our Mr Whippy vans were brought by the government and converted to travel by rail to reduce greenhouse emissions.

A freight train you will see still uses the old Fremantle line opposite Ciccerello's most week day nights...

There are about ten a day that use that line.
