Tazers

Post by bomber »

Just watching the news and they had karl saying that all officers will have a taser issued as standard kit, and that they have just brought some 1100. About time if you ask me.

Do the barbs work through clothing or only bare skin with a taser, like if your leather jacket is it effective ?

Barbs will penetrate many layers of clothing including ballistic vests, however one day they might lose the barbs altogethor and switch to exdended range electronic projectile though currently that switch is years off and Taser Int have recently finished studies into it.

The tazer barbs are what they sound like, they are barbs, they will penetrate clothing then embed in the skin and are supposedly ment to be surgically removed.

If you watch cops, you'll see it fairly often, they tazer someone, then the paramedics have to remove em. They are like fishing hooks, but not curved.

WAPOL Media Release

Man On Balcatta Roof
Police have apprehended and charged a 34 year old man who climbed onto the roof of a house in Balcatta early today (Monday 25 July 2007) and ripped off tiles and threw them at the officers. Police received a call around 1.00am today that a man was acting suspiciously near vehicles in Sylvia Street and as officers approached he fled and was chased through suburban yards and over fences. He was located on the roof of a house in Campion Street removing tiles and trying to hide inside the roof cavity.

The man was told to surrender and he refused and began throwing tiles at the police until they used OC spray and a Taser to subdue him and escort him to the ground. A search by police allegedly found a large amount of cash in his pocket and he was later charged with unlawful possession, here counts assault public officer, criminal damage and trespass. The 34 year old Rivervale man will appear in the Perth Magistrate’s Court today (Monday 25 June 2007).
Ends release.

I have a friend who is a police officer and he has felt the effects of the tazer first hand in exercises. He warns me to stay well away from them.

It may have been mentioned already, but I am led to belive that to be able to carry the tazer each person must be tazered themselves as part of the qualification process.
