Man charged over fatal Perth collision

A 33 year old man has been charged over an accident this morning which killed a Perth policeman.

The man has been ordered to appear in Joondalup Magistrates Court next Wednesday on a charge of dangerous driving causing death.

Police will allege that the man's Commodore station wagon struck 31 year old Constable Damien Murphy as the officer was trying to flag his car down on a Craigie street.

Constable Murphy was from Joondalup Police.

The policeman's death has sent shockwaves through the Western Australian law enforcement community.

Deputy commissioner Dawson told reporters at a press conference earlier today that the accident was a tragedy.

"Constable Murphy was an energetic and enthusiastic officer who was well respected by both his work
colleagues and friends alike," he said.

Whitfords Ave is 70, but from the reports, it sounds like the driver was allegedly going much faster.

Umm excuse my lack of intelligence but I don't follow you HM681.

I thought the officer was killed when he tried to stop a car from drag-racing down Whitfords ave?

What do you mean you were at the site and whilst you were there someone else decided to crash into a power-pole? How many accidents happened at that location??... :?

1am is a bit of a strange time to be out also..
