Just speaking to a guy on the radio, he saw like a mushroom cloud, but no plumes of smoke, sounds more like a explosion of some sort?

Well considering they were having trouble with water supplies.. its definately a fire.

Something may have exploded, as is often the case with a fire.. whether one started it or not.. something for the FIO to determine I would imagine, not the say so of the general public (which is likely where the police heard..)

78.100 Mhz as far as fire is concerned.

we listen to 78.1mhz or you can try 78.125mhz but remember if you are parked next to the appliance that is transmitting you wont get anything at all except a dead carrier

Considering its a repeater channel, it wouldnt matter if you were 50m from the incident. :P

I can pick it all up clear as a bell with a UHF base antenna.. and quite a bigger distance away from the repeater sites than yourself..

try parking next to a vehicle that is transmiting to a repeater and you will not hear a cracker because the simplex freq he is trans on will crush the reception of the repeater to you , not everyone just the one parked too close to

guy blew his house up and apparentely he was inside. Another guy drove up and is now being questioned by police because the blown up guy rang him up and said come over.
