i was listning to ch48 the other night and AJ call sighn seemed to be a traffic vechle,i would imagine that these cars are also avialible for traffic jobs in the suburbs,it is easy sometimes to confuse AJ with UQ

Ahh, bring us back to the one-letter callsigns. Then we know all Tango cars are traffic ...scottwa2468 wrote:i was listning to ch48 the other night and AJ call sighn seemed to be a traffic vechle,i would imagine that these cars are also avialible for traffic jobs in the suburbs,it is easy sometimes to confuse AJ with UQ

RE: TANGO ECHO CALLSIGNS
at the end of the day,why did they need to do this,i live in the warwickl area and i could know where a car was bassied, warwick used to be s and t 335-342? and joondaulup was s abd t 395-399?,with this new system waneroo is x,as of course warwick is w..the onbly reason i can think why they changed is for the new communications system, but i think that their money would have been better spent on gprs on all vechles
Scott, are you mistaking GPRS with GPS & AVL (Automatic Vehicle Locator)? Not much point investing in anything for vehicle locating until the new radios are rolled out (of which AVL is a part).. we'd all complain if they did put something in, then ripped it out and replaced it for the new radio network !
As for the callsign system, it makes more sense and is easier to extend than the old one - easier for people on the job too, 'coz you could be pretty sure not everyone could identify which station a vehicle belonged to previously when it was all Sierra and Tango with a number.. you have to remember the callsigns cover the whole state..

thanks fastlane,i always get gps and gprs mixed up,i know that it wont be difficuilt for this to happen, all transperth buses now have it on their system, country stations managed under the old system,as the saying goes,"if it aint broke dont fix it"
