I see many of the 'UQ' call sign cars have two UHF antennas (as do the CD 500 series MIG vehicles) suggesting they have two radios (one for VKI, one for 'internal' use) - does anyone know if there's a dedicated police channel for the transit unit? or perhaps a seperate radio to communicate with the rail security units?
I think people are getting the State WAPS Transit Unit confused with the Westrail Security GUARDS (In my opinion they are NOT Police) as well as the UQ cars in this topic.
I have pics of UQ201, 202, 203, 205 as well as both the unmarked cars and none of these have twin aerials or radios. The remaining unmarked car (the green VY II was smashed up in a prang on the Erindale rd, freeway on-ramp last week) has twin aerials but the other is a cellnet one for a mobile phone.
The UQ vehicles (UQ101-116) AREN'T Transit Unit, they are from the ROG's (Regional Ops Group) nothing to do with the Transit Unit. These are all high-vis car and YES they have twil aerials and radios.
Hope this clears up some confusion.
cheers

Seems a bit funny hey, PTA Transit Guards (Westrail Security Guards was back in the 90's fella) have similar powers to police but yes they are not Police Officers.
WAPOL PTU do have access to the PTA Transit Radio Network as PTA Transit Supervisor has access to and a callsign for the WA Police Radio Network.

Railway Base or Transit Guard Base, Transit Guard supervisors are SWORN Special Constables as are many Transit Guards, therefore they have the same rights and privlages as ANY Police Officer in WA.
An example would be if there was a major incident as a station such as a brawl or a fatality then the supervisor could call URGENT straight to VKI.
PTA also have access to NIS/VIS (Police Database) IMS (incident managment system) and CAD.
