The country digital network is continuously growing.

word on the street is.. Kalgoorlie looks set to be ready for action in the not to distant future and by mid 2013 Karratha and surrounding areas will be too.

Fit out all the major country towns then working on the smaller areas. in a few years time it will be all gone for good :(

Slightly different issue to that being discussed.

Does anyone know when the country areas are likely to be converted to digital, especially the Eastern Goldfields (ie. the Kalgoorlie area) ? Will the whole area be converted, or only those channels relating to the city of Kalgoorlie, Boulder ?
I now that they have been discussing digital training, so I am assuming that it can't be too far away.

several country locations are being done/ just been completed (installation of repeater equipment that is) Kalgoorlie (im not exactly sure what area of coverage/ how many sites around the town/s are getting it but i do know that a few weeks back the installation was underway.

Karratha is on the list with something like 6 repeater sites linking right up to Port Hedland. installation to start mid next year at this rate.

I believe Broome is already ready for it as well.

the info i knew (going back a couple yrs now) was that everything was going to be digital. the time line was "5 yrs" so id say you are probably safe for another 3-4yrs at this rate. as expected, start with the major towns outside the city and then work there way in.

the info i have for the Karratha area, it will be Dampier, Karratha, Wickham, Roebourne, Whim Creak, South/Port Hedland will all be digital. they are going to link the entire area via microwave links. with over 200 repeater sites in the "country" area this will take some time to implement.

hope that helps some what

Thanks.

For other reasons, thought that it might be a little sooner than that.

I haven't been able to pick up the Kalgoorlie area, so I assume that has gone digital. They were installing the equipment a couple of months ago... so I would say they're on it now.

Thanks, but it doesn't sound digital.

What frequency range is being used for the digital - the standard 468 Mhz converted, or something completely different ?

Thanks for all.

I did have a quick check of ACMA after the initial comment about it being 500 Mhz, and did see the allocations for the locations mentioned.

Guys.

Judging by what is being heard, or not heard, I suspect that the digital conversion at Kalgoorlie occurred last weekend, or early in the week.

Someone in Kalgoorlie will have to have a digital scanner and set up a P-25 motorola trunking system with the 500mhz frequances. Then find the control channel and go from there. Not sure if its encrypted. If its not encrypted you should be able to listen to them with a digital scanner.I had mine in Busselton in January and it was encrypted.Good luck.
