Hi guys,
New to Kalgoorlie and new to the scanner scene.

My Uniden Bearcat 396XT arrived yesterday and I've been struggling to get it set-up.
clearly the old 468.2750 MHz freq for the Kal Cops is no longer in action.

Any assistance with with getting up and running in the trunked 500 MHz band would be swell,
I'm pretty sure that this falls within the capabilities of the 396XT.

Cheers,
D.

Hi Brooksbot

Sadly, you're too late. Kalgoorlie appears to have transitioned to encrypted digital radio.

Uniden 396t setup

Program system
New system
Motorola or Mot
P25
yes
set freq
new freq
Put in the 500mhz frequencies that are on the map.
One of the frequancies will be a control channel and you will see some ID numbers come up.
But in will only follow the conversation. You wont be able to hear clear conversation if its encrypted.

Thanks for that information,alleycat.

If you are programming via PC, and using the standard programme that comes with the 396, do you need to know the TGID's, or do you simply put in all the stated frequencies for the location ?

Does it matter what order the frequencies are entered ?

DSD

No you dont need the TGIDs.They will be found by scanner. You may have to put each 500mhz into a separate system then let it scan to find what one is the control channel.
Order of frequancies dosnt matter.

Fair enough.

Good to know how different systems, and organisations, are tackling what is tantamount to the same issue.

Ok Folks,

We all know (or should know by now) that WAPOL is transitioning from the Analog 460Mhz system they have used for many many years to the Motorola Apco25 Digital (encrypted ) Trunk radio system located in the 500Mhz band.

For a few years now the Metro area has been running on this system and lots of people got upset. Now if you have heard from your mates brothers girlfriends dad knows a guy who spoke to some fella in a pub one night who said he knows someone who has cracked the encryption on there system. YOU'RE WRONG! This is not going to happen (unless you have very deep pockets and lots of computing power at your fingertips but even then, good luck to you)

So from Two Rocks out to Toodyay down to Pinjarra and across to Mandurah and everywhere in between we will call the "metro" area. This originally compiled of about 30 sites across Perth (now has grown and i don't know the number now)

Since about, lets say 2yrs or so WAPOL has been rolling out there Digital system into the country.

I have gone out of my way to compile a bit of a list for everyone so they are up to date with what is digital now.
Some of these area's may still be using there analog system too, im not sure.

Any way here we go, and in no particular order...

Geraldton - Moresby Range (Telstra)
Geraldton - Tarcoola Tank (Water Corp)
Geraldton - Martin Farm Hill (Optus)
Dongara - Port Denison (Telstra)

Muchea - Brand Hway (WAPOL)
Toodyay - Jimperding Hill (Telstra)
Northam - Fox Farm Rd (Vodafone)

Coolgardie - Emu Hill (Telstra)
Kalgoorlie - Mt Charlotte (Telstra)
Sth Kalgoorlie - Lane St (WAPOL)
Boulder - Mt Hunt (Vodafone)
Kambalda - Alan Hill (Telstra)
Dunsborough - Caves Rd Site (Telstra)
Busselton - Queen Elizabeth rd site (Telstra)
Capel - Hutton Rd Site (Optus)
Gelorup - PMTS Site (Telstra)
Bunbury - Boulters Heights (WAPOL)
Brunswick Junction - Partidge Rd ( Optus)

I can confirm Karratha is not digital yet. not until next year.
I know this because they are going to be using my works Comms Site and we are only now having meeting about the setup/ equipment on the tower etc.

They have 3 Frequencies (and repeaters all located at the Woodside KGP Mt Wongama Comms site.

467.900 - ch 3 Used the most.
468.500 - ch 27 - not heard any traffic
468.800 - ch 39 - not heard any traffic
