ANPR - It's a big thing in the UK and I think it's well overdue here.

Agree, you can't drive across the UK with vehicle problems without triggering an alert. Seeing the UK cop shows, there are forces that specialise in ANPR.

Sounds like we could head that way, although I can see in the future the amount of fines and vehicle seizures will go through the roof! But its government greediness I tell you!!!

I have absolutely no problem with the government generating an income stream at the same time as sending a price signal to the market/public that laws aren't negotiable, unless of course the law/policy in question does public harm, but that is a whole different conversation

Does anyone know if it can prioritise cases/offenders on the fly?

From what I've gathered, the UK has a huge problem with unregistered drivers/cars, cloned/stolen number plates, and uninsured cars (have to hold insurance for car AND driver together!).

They do two kinds of number plate checking - a "sting" where they set up the camera van and patrol cars down the road a bit will pull over vehicles of interest that the ANPR system picks up and a mobile mode where some vehicles have a live camera in the car that automatically reads number plates and flags cars for attention.

Interestingly, they are replacing some fixed speed cameras with ANPR cameras. Speeding it seems is a divisive issue, but everybody hates unregistered drivers

One disadvantage I see with these systems is being picked up all the time innocently - say if your housemate loses his license but allows you to drive his (registered) car. All is legit but you'll always get pulled over because the car's owner has a suspended MDL...

Small price to pay I guess. Although a lot of people get peed off easy these days, water off a ducks back for most of our finest I'd imagine

That had the stationary camera, not sure if more than one, was setup with the booze bus(s).

I am glad that Holden came to the cause and have actually listened to the needs of WAPOL [i.e room for a built in TARDIS in the centre console]

But I wonder how long until the woman voice gets changed to a male voice? I lasted two days in the GPS, until changed to a male voice. Already got one woman telling me what to do/where to go, Two woman's are to much!

Personally I think they need to mount the cameras on the windscreen and in the rear window (Like the Essex Interceptors Scooby's) They are effective and hidden in that position!

Still, good that WAPOL have it now!

TE200 no longer has the pursuit gps tracker fitted... Hopefully wapol haven't dumped the idea...

48 of the new ANPR type vehicles have just rolled out. Certainly seeing them around, seen 3 in a week (one in north metro, one in Belmont TE20x and another attached to a booze bus TB20x). This should be a massive boost for the traffic cops these vehicles look the part, are FINALLY well lit, and have the technology to make a difference.

I see problems with this system in the next new model of commodore to fit the consul and if commodore stops production , I'm also told offices are having issues getting down the road with the system picking up so many cars in a short period , also once an arrest is made it ties them up for a period effectively taking them off the road , apparently there is an insane amount of suspended drivers in Perth
