Affirmitive.... - I had taken my sister to her friends house a few streets up (towards Rendezvous hotel) - and since in Ozzie Park - Scarb Beach Road, was my route to get back home, so yes, I did render assistance... at that time, only AZ-203 was there - and Osborne Park FESA came Emergency Road conditions, same as Daglish 2nd with Light tanker etc...

I don't know anything else about the story at this stage, but first impressions make one wonder why this particular incident got a police escort.... hmmmm
I think you probably know why this incident got an escort. I would imagine it went something like this:

1. Police arrived on scene prior to ambulance
2. Police reported to VKI that it was a member who was injured
3. Radio supervisor approved priority escort for injured member

I can't see anything wrong with it. Look after your own... always.

Just out of interest, police escorts for ambulances are extremely rare. IMO they are more dangerous than a normal priority 1 drive. Members of the public will see the escorting police vehicle, and not expecting another vehicle to be following, begin to move again. It is usually safe to just let the ambulance crew negotiate their own way.

I can understand, though, why police officers would want to escort an ambulance in these circumstances.

I was walking down the terrace this morning and saw a cop car escorting an ambulance with lights and sirens.

I was wondering what it was, I guess this was it.

I disagree. Firies often travels in pairs (LT and HT)

And the ambulance is much higher than the cop vehicle so can be seen over the top of the cop car.

Heaps of near misses for the LT in this situation. People look for and see the first go through then dont give way to the next as they assume there is one. Greatly noticed this compared to vic fire services

police escorts while all good in theory there better off spent at the intersection holding the traffic and letting the ambulance pass then going to the next as such.

People should just leave a bit more space behind the emergency vehicle before merging, and anyone that misses and ambulance or light tanker in their mirrors should be getting their eyes checked.

I agree. i think its much safer and effective to have them stop each intersection.

a family member of mine got a police escort from Royal Perth Hospital to Shenton Park rehab centre. His ambulance had an escort because he was in Spinal Traction and apparently they have to avoid the jolts from starting and stopping.

Im not entirely sure if they used an ambulance or PTV though...

Thanks for clearing up what vehicle is used. I didnt see them transfer him to Shenton so i thought it might of been a St John PTV.

Do you know what the escorts consist of? How many vehicles and are they bikes or cars?
