Last night on the Freo channel, Polair 61 was struck by some clown pointing a laser at the aircraft. Fortunately the idiot did it several times and the crew was able to identify the source and got video footage of the offence. The offender was seen on camera to enter a house to which Polair promptly dispatched a police vehicle. The offender was apprehended and taken back to the station to be video interviewed. The Polair video of the offence and the interview video will now be used by the Australian Federal Police to charge the suspect with the serious offence of interfering with an aircraft. These charges can attract penalties of up to two years imprisonment and or fines of $5500.
Man, 30, stabbed to death in city
A young man died last night after his throat was believed to have been slashed during an altercation at the Wellington Street bus station in the city.
Police said the 30-year-old-man, of Asian descent, got off a bus at stand three at the station and was confronted by a 20-year-old Caucasian man about 10.30pm.
During an altercation, believed to be over cigarettes, the Asian man was stabbed. Ambulance officers confirmed that he suffered serious arterial wounds and bled to death at the scene.
The alleged attacker fled the scene but was apprehended by police a short time later.
The man was being interviewed by detectives in the city police station last night.
Police were also speaking to witnesses.
It is not know whether the dead man was a local. It is understood the two men did not know each other.
