Anyone know what the Police callsign : GX 402 is..?? Doesn't appear on the spreadsheet - any clues anyone..????

being 402 I would say their D's can't think what station their from though.

Thanks all..!!!! Makes sense, as the GX 402 callsign was off at Cott. Police Station (for whatever reason....).

Incidentally, the W.A. Police Service has recently disposed of ALL their HF (High Frequency) transceivers (made by Barrett in Bibra Lake). These are used in the country/outback vehicles/stations where UHF (Ultra High Frequency) equipment isn't viable/logical. This (HF) radio spectrum utilises the HUGE aerials often seen on the rear of Police vehicles (called an 'Autotune' antenna...). Codan are now the preferred supplier of HF equipment for the W.A. Police Service, & the old-style Barretts are now 'history'. They were commisioned for use in the late 80's, & ran out of production in 1994, so...they're fairly 'dated'. Unfortunately, prior to de-commisioning, the Police Techs. at Maylands removed certain 'vital' components from the transceivers, to prevent members of the 'general public' from re-using them. I've since discovered, via MANY e-mails to the Service Department at Barrett, that the radios CAN be refurbished, though...not for use on the Police HF frequencies. The particular transceiver ordered by the W.A. Police Service in the late 80's has a different Control Head than the 'standard' SB 250 RC, & other minor anomalies. However, aside from being an interesting 'collectors' item, they ARE able to be re-used as a 'normal' HF radio (much the same as the earlier Philips FM-Series & Motorola Syntrx series, still seen in MANY Police vehicles..). Though, we shall soon see the 'curtains draw' on 'standard' UHF communications within the metropolitan area of Perth, as the age of encrypted digital transmissions reaches our 'sunny' shores..!!!! Oh well...!!!!!

To give you a proper answer, GX401 and GX402 are Claremont Detectives.. The station patrols and GD staff were transferred to Cottesloe while the detectives stayed at Claremont station as there was not a square inch of room at Cottesloe.. Claremont station still opens during office hours as a front ounter for complaints, bail reporting etc..

So what do they use for comms now in the middle of nowhere?

Codan are now their 'preferred' supplier. The last of the 'old' Barrets are being/have been disposed of via various auction houses 'round Perth. Which is as much as I know..!!!
