AV206 just called in on 47 saying he can't get onto channel 30 or 25, the enquiry channels.
Operator says they should be up.

When the police go digital is it likely in the event of a storm that the comms can go down like they have today?

Yup. Perhaps just like happened in New Orleans... everything is controlled by a central computer. That computer goes down and all comms stop working.

The advantage of the WA Police system though is that the radios can still use analogue repeaters and talk digital amongst themselves whereas in New Orleans the radios only worked through the trunking system.

From the OP on 50, saying 50 is on backup and some other channels are on standby (48 & 52) but crackly..

also mentioned something about a tower in Maylands.. perhaps using old radio links at the moment due to a lightning strike somewhere?

Cheers Millsy - But i think the Techies are still working on "fine tuning" how it sounds - cause when some people transmit - It sounds very crackly in some instances.... But jeez what a day - Port Kennedy got hit with a Tornado - Full details on 7 news tonight at 6pm.
