The only occ health requirement for vests is that they are to be worn by those officers whose primary role is traffic enforcement or where it is reasonably expected that a "significant" portion of their duties will involve operating in an environment with passing traffic ie booze bus, argus operations etc

That is why you see traffic officers with them, due to OH&S requirements. For the rest it is a personal or OIC choice. My view is that they are a very bad tactical piece of clothing for GD officers. In a non traffic environment it is literally like painting a large target on you and going "please "throw/shoot/spit" stuff at me".

Anyway back to getting this thread back on track.........

I was told while back by a senior police officer that they were compusory, but uncomfortable and he hated wearing one all shift, Mike Bikes hate them more so now that all thier equipment are in pockets on the vest, making it heavy around the neck.

Up until recently, we had to wear these sons of b*. Canvas. Everybody complained so much they gave us regular blue work shirts.

Just had 2 TRG vehicles (SUV's) and the black Rescue vehicle fly past my house on Peninsula Road Maylands.
Tuned to ch34 and heard something about the suspect not being in the premises anymore.

No other details as yet, prolly more chatter on the digital side of things :(

Update, they have blocked off William and St Georges Tce to Vehicle and Pedestrian Traffic.

Also closed off Esplande and William also.

12:30 Streets being opened up again.

12:32 being blocked off again...
wish they'd make up their minds..

Might be an armed hold up.

Current intersections blocked are:
William, Sherwood and Barrack cross with Esplande, and William and Sherwood cross with St Georges Tce.

Lookout to be kept for:
Black... Sedan.. ?
XRO-266 driving erractially around Shenton Park.
Not sure if related to this incident or not.

TRG requesting Sherwood to be re-opened.
Scene commander confirms ok.
Building has been contained.

Think I heard Polair on one of the GC unit's radio.

Still got Perth city rodeo vehicles with orange strobes controlling traffic from turning left onto the Esplanade (Freeway North) - from William Street and a dark blue unmarked WAPOL Holden Station Wagon.

Reports coming in that this POI was running around with a fire arm - any confirmation into this?
