Up until the late 80's early 90's you could join the defence forces as an apprentice between 15 and 17. The navy also ran a JR (junior recruit) programme at Leeuwin barracks at Fremantle up until the early 80's.Tyranus wrote:Just clarify for me please, Defence Forces, or Defence Force cadets? There is a huge difference, at 15, I'm sure it would have been the cadets, but maybe you ment a different age. Either way what you're saying is valid, both will bring someone back to ground zero when they join. The way I look at it is, when I joined the BFS, I got told, you won't drive under Firecall until we're happy with your driving. With the police they have their different driving courses, but hopefully by the time they've joined they've got enough experience and are mature enough behind the wheel to do their first driving course.godinoz wrote: When I was 15 i joined the defence force. At the time I felt I was bullet proof (still think it - LOL)
I could handle it. I had to mature quite fast, as did alot of others, ie males and females. With the right guidance and peer support they should be quite successful.
I've seen mature people with c*^ts of attitudes embarass new recuits, in front of members of the public.
I believe life skills are important, but everyone has to learn.
If the Commish wasn't confident in them, he wouldn't of reinstated cadetships.
Like I said, with the right guidance anyone can be successful in anything they choose to do!!!!!!!!!!

Um i may be speaking out of turn here, but honestly does it really matter, I'm sure the OIC would not have given the cadet recruit nancy boy in a pink tootoo or what ever they were the keys to a police car without having absolute confidence in their ability to drive. yes it a police car yes they are a public icon that has to be above and beyond the average Joe citizen but honestly ppl
And if Elvis was chasing 2pac on a mike bike- he wouldn't have gotten to close cause we all know he 2pac would have put a cap in his ass lol
but as long as Truckie was recording the pursuit and Luke was recording it on his trusty video camera were all good right....
