All green on great eastern hwy.

Post by Always RX »

This morning i heard a traffic vehicle doing what sounded like an escort of some description..may have been AG206 i cant quite remember as i was out working at the time. What grabbed my attention was the radio silence by all other cars during the transit and also the VKI direct radio call to Main Roads to organise the setting of all all green TCL`s on Gt Eastern Highway down to around the airport and the subsequent call at each and every intersection crossed by the Traffic car. Im guessing it was a diplomatic escort? anyone hear this stuff before or know what it was i heard?.

It was more than likely an organ escort either from the airport ot to the airport.....

Heard a similar thing a few months ago, southbound Mitchell Fwy, Graham Farmer Fwy, East Pde to Royal Perth. Sounded like quite a well run operation.

So you actually heard VKI talking to MRD on the radio, I knew the TOC had a Police Radio but I didnt know they were using it yet.

There call sign is TQ100.

Yep the MRD was using that radio and i am pretty sure it was a city to the domestic airport job as the last call i heard was "entering brearly ave". Good call on the organ rush i reckon ..as im sure there was only one traffic car involved.

MRD - VKI

Heard something similar through Perth on Monday Morning.... There was a car calling just crossed ...... and then VKI relayed the msg to MRD then every now and again MRD would call up to confirm there exact location but there really didnt seem much urgency to the whole situation but very interesting....although i did note there was radio silence by almost all other cars for approx 20 mins whilst this was all taking place.

I heard AG203 and AG205 heading to Perth Airport to pick up an organ for transport this afternoon. They headed there under P2 due to the inbound flight being early.

There are always 2 traffic cars that do the escort, one carries the 'organ' and the other is back up car in case the first has an accident or is hit, that way the 'organ' will get to the hospital or to the air plane.

Oh when i refer to the 'organ' i am not showing any disrepect, its just the easiest way of refering to it.

How often do these kind of jobs come up? I've heard a few from time to time but they don't seem very frequent.

The other type that I always think is well done is the ambulance escort. I think these are usually from country towns coming into Perth where they block the intersections in a similar manner. I'm guessing though that withh the RAC rescue helicopter, these kinds of jobs would be less common now?

Thanks Danny before you arrived on the scene in here I said the same thing and was told I didn't know what I was talking about.

Organ Donor = Organ Transplant which means at some point in 99.9% of cases an Organ Escort.

Zebedee yes your 100% correct they are almost a non event these days however if the chopper was say on the way to or in Albany doing an transfer (escort) and another one was required urgently from say Northam then the old by road transfer would more than likely accur.

no worries

there are a few organ escorts, most are priority 2 jobs however some are priority one, depending on how long the organ can last on ice etc

It is pretty handy though having green lights all the way, makes the drive alot smoother

And I assume is less resource-intensive for personnel. As in they don't have to have police cars leapfrogging in front of the escort to block intersections...
