30% of the fleet is to be moved to 4 cylinders in the next 2 years. that includes unsworn executive's cars, and other non-operational vehicles for pen pushers, such as the camry and pulsar, both of which are crap cars.

which still leaves 70% for highway patrol cars and TEG, MIG etc

The Commissioner has gone way too far with this one.

Image/ public perception should always come first with police. Forget about Petrol and the environment for a second and wonder about presence out in the community. What if say, Police are called to a Street Party and the first car to arrive is driving a small Astra? Seriously, How embarrassing. Get real Karl.

We don't live in London with small streets and tight corners. Why does he keep trying to change things? Everything seems to be fine the way it is, except for Police pants.

i agree completely, except the pants i like the pants, much more comfortable for the officers and wouldnt be as constrictive as the other dressy pants.

Well i guess the GOOD thing is that they didnt put one of those panda car sirens on them though :P

And astras being small car it is a group of people at a out of control party could roll it right over on its roof, and protection for both officers in a crash as well.

The last commisioner effecively did nothing for his 3 - 4 year term. Under this commish we have had new uniforms, new firearms, tasers, SV6's, XR6T's, and now WRX's and Astra Turbos.
Not all of the changees have been for the better, but at least we now have more to choose from than a 6cyl family commodore.
I will happily squeeze into a WRX, over a commodore any day !

And you could say it was under Priority driving conditions (well during the news shot) so it can have as many lights on/flashing etc as it wants right?
"VKI, NJ050 will you be attending the job?"
