Talking about Category A, B, C, and Priority 1, 2, et'c prompts me to ask a question from observations I have made of late.
Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong but I don't think I am.
In the last (say the last 2 to 3 years) I have noticed that when the cops on the road call for "urgent back up" and not "if there's someone close by can they swing by".. but blood curdling screams of "we need urgent back up VKI", that VKI is only issuing a "P2" to the backup car or cars.
I would have thought that a "P1" would be more appropriate.
Is it a case of better to be a little late than risk not getting there at all?
What prompted the question was the crash the other day at Great Eastern and Tonkin hwy the truck v motor cycle where the ambulance lost it's lights and siren.
TE210, CD502, and TK205 were all given a P1 to escort the ambulance to RPH.
Surely cops in serious trouble deserve more than a P2 back up response.
I would be interested in comments from current serving members of the Police Service as apposed to general members of this forum as the coppers know and understand the reasons for this, where as I doubt the rest of us do.
Priority 1 Vs Priority 2

because only traffic cops or older rank members have a class 1 lic meaning they did pursuit course. Other members have only done only normal driving tranning, that how i see it.
does any one remember a job where there was guy shooting off rounds at a pub or some sort he had shot gun, TRG were on the way but a undermark cop car was heading to the job as well and got given cat A and he crash and is passager die. it was long time ago. any one remember

I'm not with the Police so I don't presume to speak for any of our Police forum members, but my theory would be that it has to do with the push in the community towards everything being "safe" and for people not to be put at risk. That's just my guess.just.nosey wrote:In the last (say the last 2 to 3 years) I have noticed that when the cops on the road call for "urgent back up" and not "if there's someone close by can they swing by".. but blood curdling screams of "we need urgent back up VKI", that VKI is only issuing a "P2" to the backup car or cars.

However in the case of a police officer needing urgent assistance, I'd hope that whatever VKI said would be ignored and those most able to assist got there *right now*
Interesting about the "special category" that was mentioned on the previous page. I'd not heard of that before. But that's probably along the lines that I'm thinking of - "just get there right now, no questions asked" is the right thing to do when a fellow officer's life is in immediate danger.
All just my opinion of course!

Am I right in stating that under P2 you still have to stop for stop signs and red lights before proceeding through them?
And its correct in saying most normal officers are only rated to do P2, but we all know they go a tad faster when appropriate (not like there gonna get pulled over for speeding )

Don't know about the second one - But for the first one, I think it would be common sense to all - under P2 to at least slow down when approaching TCL's and Stop Signs etc.... - can you imagine if a truck or bus was approaching the opposite side and a Emergency vehicle doing P2 went straight through a stop sign? Big mistake - Im sure it comes down to Common sense and what the traffic is like right?yorky wrote:Am I right in stating that under P2 you still have to stop for stop signs and red lights before proceeding through them?

ahhh yes those 'things' forgot about them (well since the camera op at the open day said you won't even notice them if your not speeding ).
Can you confirm Walks if you have to stop for reds before proceeding through on P2?

Travelling P2 (or P1 for that matter) does not create some kind of magic force field around an emergency vehicle. The world is full of idiots who still don't know how to react in the vicinity of such activity.nightnewz-crew wrote:...if you were a cop would you stop at red lights and stop sighs if your going under p2 conditions.
"thinking about it. " nightnewz, regardless of vehicle setup, training and ability ALL emergency vehicle drivers should/would exercise due caution at any inersection in any condition.

It happened in Scotland late last year.

The head of a police force's driving school was clocked doing 118mph through a motorway accident blackspot, it has emerged. Inspector Paul Gee, of Durham Police, was caught by a mobile camera positioned on a bridge over the M9 near Falkirk, Scotland, while on police duty.
He was in uniform as he drove the 5-Series diesel BMW and was carrying out a risk assessment for the force's advanced driving course on November 3. Central Scotland Police have sent out a notice of intended prosecution, which Durham Police hope will be withdrawn.
