I liked the old ABC TV news theme... and this makes it sound a lot better

I have to say its the best song after hearing their new album

The original ABC news theme was derived from "Majestic Fanfare" by Charles Williams from Britain in 1935.

The radio theme uses a few bars from Majestic fanfare. The old 80s tv theme is different.

The ABC theme currently used on the radio was the original TV news theme too.

Does anyone know why the ABC (Radio) News at 7.45am in the mornings plays a longer version of the theme song than at other times of the day? I've often wondered why, but I'm not the sort that rings up radio stations!

It's because the 7:45am bulletin is considered the 'flagship' of the day's bulletins. At 15 minutes, it's the longest and is an institution in radio news.
