Scanner listener tells wrong family of death

A snoop listening in on a police radio (frequency) told the wrong family that a relative was dead after a logging accident....

and thats exactly another reason why all emergency service traffic should be digital encrypted...same as WA Police.

to be honest, the organisations should know better than to put sensitive information over a radio network that isn't encrypted. pretty sure they have phones in NZ? :P

I didn't think that sort of techhnology would have made it over to the the East Islands...although they do have mobiles in Zimbabwe so I suppose they would. Besides it's a matter of a) coverage and b) having a work phone. Because there are some people who won't use a personal phone in a situation like that, who knows. I'm sure a report will come out of it all.
