It also depends what type of fire it is, Bushfire, House, Car or Fireworks Factory...
I'm sure the SES/VFRS guys should be able to help.

If you want an urgent answer, you may want to post this in the FESA forum, for a more Fire Fighting Audience.

You need to be a bit more precise like where is the fire?

If you observe a fire, ring 000 and ask for the fire service. Stay calm and provide them with any relevant information they ask for.

Simple. :D

Asses the situation

Make sure all human life is preserved without endangering your own life and make sure ever person is accounted for and is safe.

apply firstaid if needed

think about what information you will need to provide the 000 call taker, eg. services required, location, sitrep.
make sure you have all the details befor you/someone rings 000 so your not holding up the operator.

ring 000 yourself or assign a person to do it, make sure you assign that person the resposabillity, incase everyone thinks someone else is ringing, and it doesnt get done!

keep the area clear and double check everyone is safe. possibley group in an open area near the front of the building or near the road so the emergency services can see you when they arrive.

Can I just add, get that person to check back with you after they have called 000, there have been cases in the past when in the stress of the moment, the assigned person hasn't called or has hung up earlier.
