mmm yeah know flying around midland K...I don't want to have to evacuate into the heat :P In the mean time why don't you replace the tires on your plane with serious ones and add a 4th wheel...then you can go off road and make up your own run way?

So if it's a down the runway wind, do you get to go play?

If so mate probably will only read this after if you do but good luck and fly safely, otherwise we won't have anyone to pick on and it'll have to be me :(

My understanding is yes - you can have as much headwind as you like (within reason of course...)

Tailwind isn't as good - but if you got too much of that, they'd use the runway in the opposite direction I think...

(This is all my non-pilot's understanding of how it works, it's probably a lot more complicated as that, but it's enough of an explanation for me... Anything more just gets me all confused!)

Agreed. While all this teasing is a bit of fun, and we're all taking it in good humour, it must be unbelievably frustrating to be thwarted by something like a bit of wind, not once or twice but several times now.

The quicker Nathan goes solo, the quicker he can take me up and scare the daylights out of me ;)

Best of luck for tomorrow as well. I know you don't need the luck for the flying, but more so that the weather gods will be in a benevolent frame of mind!

and 1800GMT/UTC is 0300 Local daylight saving time

You went the wrong way. We are 9 hours ahead not 7.

doug more or less got it in one,

The aircraft cannot fly in crosswinds stronger than 15 knots, but for first solo it is 10. And we cannot fly with more than 5 knots downwind, as on the takeoff roll, it will be longer for aerodynamic reasons, but on landing it is dangerous, as when we hold off, a downwind will slam us onto the runway, which isn't good in any respect

Well Nathan, its 1300 now, and I haven't heard of any major plane crashes or anything so hopefully you got to go up and have a good flight! Not sure how long you'll be going up for so maybe there's still time yet for you to take out Doug or one of his antenna's or do something spectacular! :P.
