The great debate

I had to trim the question to fit it in the poll.
The full question is:

``Are you in favour of daylight saving being introduced in Western Australia by standard time in the state being advanced one hour from the last Sunday in October 2009 until the last Sunday in March 2010 and in similar fashion for each following year?'

Voting Day, Saturday, May 16th 2009

Let's keep it civil.

Love it, but I have a feeling we are going to lose it. 8) [-o< :D
On Channel 7's poll it was a big no... :(

I think it will be lost as well. Voting should be restricted to people who can read a clock and people who realise that you don't actually get an extra hour of daylight. I think the results would swing considerably.

In some ways it is good - but in others its not.

As a pilot it gives me more time before last light to opperate, but as a DJ - less effective lighting, so not as gooder gig

I'm not a fan - spend several months of the year getting up in the dark in winter, don't see why I should also have to do it through summer.

I _do_ think that having daylight savings in winter would be great though - would really appreciate some extra sunlight in the afternoons then.

Perth already gets an inbuilt amount of daylight saving as the time zone boundary really goes through towards Kalgoorlie.

What good gig actualy gets cranking before 8.30pm anyway?? Or are we talking about your sideline for childrens birthday parties  ...**ducks and runs**

[back on topic] I love daylight saving... bring it on!! But i expect it will be a NO vote due to fact that people who like daylight saving just quietly get on with their lives and a vocal minority that oppose it "doth protesteth too much", and will sway popular opinion. (plus the Liberal/National State Government has already made up it's mind 8) )

Did you ever consider that only the people who are fully against DLS would have been the ones who rang up to vote?

Anyway, all the people who love DLS would have been at the park with their kids or getting ready to cook their barbie for tea when the 6pm news came on...

I'd take their poll with a grain of salt.

Well according to http://warsug.info there's a majority yes vote so I think daylight savings will stay! Awesome, just what I wanted!

Isn't the vote ment to be compulsory anyway so all the likers of DLS will get to vote yes??

That's what makes these ring-in polls more or less useless I reckon. Only when people are really strongly in favour of or against something will they bother to call.

Whereas the referendum will include everyone who's eligible to vote, and in the end it's the only one that really matters ;)
