Foxtel...

Post by Chicky »

Ok... after everyone's opinion. Who's got Foxtel, what are the best packages for someone like little ol' me who has kids & mum loves the criminal/medical stuff? Any hints, tips or suggestions would be appreciated :D Oh, and is IQ or HD worth it - pro's and con's? Cheers in advance!

Yes very much worth it!

I love my Foxtel but admit it is quite expensive.

I recommend the Platinum package with IQ. Your looking at about $100 a month though but that includes basically all the channels. Once you go IQ you will never go back.

Would not recommend HD due to the channels on offer.

Foxtel are doing a great deal til Christmas at the moment. Only a 12 month contract (compared to 24) with free install and free IQ for the 12 months. Link here ---> http://www.foxtel.com.au/packagescentral.htm

While we at home do not have it and love the fact that there aren't as many Ad's and we're not paying lots of money for channels we're not watching! :) Just have to throw in the other side of the argument which I'm sure you're probably aware of.

I'll join Tyranus on the "no" vote - we don't watch much TV here anyway, certainly don't need more channels!

I remember as a kid that my parents would only let us young 'uns watch the ABC. I developed a marked fondness for shows like The Goodies, Dr Who and Blake's 7 as a result of that... And I spent heaps of time playing outdoors too

I agree with you Meg, and I think that's why I want it lol... I too grew up with ABC and was so excited when GWN was commenced - how sad! Haha....

Nafenn, are you going to get IQ? Or not planning to?

Turbo - cheers for that. Have looked it all up and almost ready to make the call

Yeah that's one thing I didn't mention, have had my IQ replaced twice over about 3 years.

It only takes about 2 minutes for them to swap a new one in but about a 2 week wait.

The installer tells me he has to do a whole bunch whenever there is a big storm.

Definitely wouldn't put me off getting one though.

PS: Yes, jacked is cool

Even though i work in TV (and for Fox), i can't see the point in paying for something i can get for free. Buy a High Definition Set Top Box (HD-STB) for less than a hundred dollars, and you can get 9 channels crystal clear on your existing TV right now and there are more "free to air" (FTA) channels coming.

Buy a High Definition Personal Video Recorder (PVR) for a few hundred dollars and you can record and playback.

Or if you're too geeky for words like me ... a PC with 4 x digital TV tuners and Windows Media Centre ;)

That's what drives the big TV at home, hehe.

Yeah but if you're going to do it, you do it in a big way :P

Not just Spicks and Specks though, don't forget Antiques Roadshow!!!

Wouldn't need four tuners in the blasted thing if the commercial stations wouldn't run their shows overtime, requiring "padding" any recording with 10-15 minutes just in case <grumble...>
