I'd hate to ask our scientists to perhaps try and do research on more important things, such as Cancer and Global Warming to name 2.

and how on earth are they more important than studying the loss of teaspoons at work?

I'm not sure, perhaps studying global warming more would help to save lifes rather than saving a few teaspoons. I'm not going into an argument with the reasons why it is better to study something then another. :)
