I heard a rumour that the streetview cars are mapping Wifi MAC addresses at the same time.

geez, wudnt those cameras be the worst fore aerodynamics........

Spotted in Ballajura and Marangaroo Thursday by my ever-alert 8-year-old.

What would be the point of that? Only way I can see a use in it is to show wireless hotspots.. but I suspect that isn't likely to take into account insecure home networks?

As for Midland area, my dad spotted the SV vehicle travelling through Guildford/Woodbridge sometime early-middle November 09. So I'd assume Midland would have been done around the same time.

Just MAC addresses. Something to do with finding your location on google maps/streetview/Earth by typing in your MAC.

Google Maps and Google Android can help locate your position (on a mobile device) by looking at 'registered' wireless AP's that are reachable by your device.

Sorry to bump an old topic - Looks like the street view cars are out again. Saw one near Mt Henry bridge on Kwinana Freeway on Wednesday morning. Was a VW Tiguan. Last time Perth was done was Dec 09/ Jan 10 if i remember correctly.
