The reason the security guards were at school is because some girls of no particular race or ethnicity were bashing some other girls for no apparent reason at Gosnells SHS. Are security guards allowed to have tasers?

Fine by me. I have their frequency in my scanner and have occasionally heard urgent requests for assistance. Usually only listen to my scanner when I'm driving so forget about it later.

Not quite the same, but all of the public schools here have "Liaison Officers" Which are basically just police officers for the school, pretty much just to take care of drugs, etc.
Now, even they are allowed to carry tasers, however... If they do, they have to go through all the training, etc. They're also allowed to carry guns/Handcuffs/mace.
however, I think this is slightly different. Although, I would think that anywhere there is need for security, especially at a school, they'd be allowed to have tasers.

We have (or at least had, I assume it's still current) something similar in Western Australia - they're called "school based police officers". One officer will normally be based out of, say, a high school and will visit students in the area to give talks on things like bike safety, "stranger danger", and other topics. School based police officers, as far as I know, aren't armed as they're not "operational" police. They're in a community services type of role, for which being armed isn't a requirement...Natatha wrote:Not quite the same, but all of the public schools here have "Liaison Officers" Which are basically just police officers for the school, pretty much just to take care of drugs, etc.
The idea of schools here having security guards is ... pretty unthinkable to be honest.Natatha wrote:Although, I would think that anywhere there is need for security, especially at a school, they'd be allowed to have tasers.

I know a few private schools have security patrols at night, usually have a dog and handler with maybe some OC spray. But they're off campus when classes start, and then there's all the students.
