Driving along warnbro sound av, headed in the other direction is a car with lots of red lights flashing and 2 red beacons going... it gets closer and i begin to hear a siren. It was a wail and then when it turned a corner it changed to a yelping kind of tone.
Since when did western power upgrade themselves to red lights instead of amber and since when did cars with only red lights have sirens??? What restrictions would be in place for their "Priority" response??? Weird

These vehicles have been around for some time. They are a priortity response vehicle and turn out to assist at mvas house fires etc etc ( dangerous electrical incidents ). There has been a picture on this site as well as a previous discussion re these vehicles
Several have awful sounding sirens too (as mentioned by someone else here it sounds like a cat being strangled).
However only a couple of weeks ago I spotted one on P1 (or whatever WP calls it) with the exact same dual tone Police siren, heard it coming a mile away and looked and sounded good.

Most of the ones I've seen are patrols...I'll see if the emergency response vehicle that was at DTEC today is there tomorrow when I go for my truck lesson.

Thats out of date, I'd be surprised if any SES unit used only orange, most will have red only and units in the country and select metro units will have Red and Blue. Any unit basically that does Cliff or Road Accident Rescue will have Red and Blue.
Technically we could use orange when parked up on the side of the road and working, but we just use the Red's or Red and Blue's for that like WAPOL, SJA, and all the fire services.
