weather Tracking

Post by Night_Ryder »

G'day all. Does anyone know of any weather tracking software for Australia? or if anyone has links to any Australian weather websites (other than BoM) could you post them, as I am an avid storm watcher.

Are there any storm watchers or chaser here?

I was just going to mention the BOM Radars (http://www.bom.gov.au/weather/radar/). We don't have the fancy doppler wind radars here in Perth, but watching the composite rainfail/visible radar is nifty.

I too would be interested in knowing if there are any other radar sites available.

The BOM has a good supply of data you can FTP including quite a bit that can be processed by computer for stats, tracking etc. They also have all the documentation necessary to interpret the data. Look in this directory for the data and images. I can't remember the URL for the docs but it's fairly easy to find on their site. A lot of it's free but there is some stuff you have to register for.

ftp://ftp2.bom.gov.au/anon/gen/fwo/

There are downloadable pics like radar, UV forecast, daily rainfall etc etc

I wrote a program in VisualBasic to show me the last 24 hours of stats for any BOM site as well as a seven day forecast all in graphical form. It has some issues due to my crappy programming skills so it will probably never leave my PC for fear of being taunted
